This past weekend we went to Victory (Conf. Center for NE of North America) for our bi-annual soccer tournament. Jenn, Kris, Angie, & I traveled up in my car and after getting a late start, turning around for camper keys, and getting stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour (at 11:30pm!) we finally pulled in at about 2:00-2:30 a.m. The games started Sat. morning at 10:00 (or was it 10:30? I can't even remember) and Team DE's first match was against Toronto. They played an really tough game against them, taking WAY more shots on the goal the whole game. It looked like it was going to come down to a shoot out when in the last 5 seconds of the game, Toronto made a goal. Somehow they always seem to pull that off. They lost their next games to Syracuse and Ottawa B scoring only one goal in the Ottawa game. They played really well though. Even though they lost, it was only by a 2 goals max I think. Kyle did an amazing job as a first time goalie! He had no qualms about getting down an dirty to save that ball. We had a few other new players this year who I think everybody would agree did extremely well. Aaron an Matthew played and were really good I thought. Aaron & Paul rocked the defense. They set the whole thing up different this year and put all the teams into two pools. Frankly, I did not understand how the whole system worked, but Sunday morning found DE playing Toronto for a place in the playoffs. That game was much like the first in that it was a duel to the end with overtime. The difference... it went all the way to a shoot out which was INTENSE! Paul, Peter, Luke, Josh, & Sonya took the shots and it was so close it all came down to Sonya. If she made it we won. If she didn't make it, it went to second round shoot out. I guess she didn't want to cause us all that stress cause she kicked a beeeautiful kick into the corner of the goal! We went off ecstatic cheering and chanting SONYA! SONYA! SONYA! All I have to say about her soccer skills is to echo the words of Johanne Frantzen. "Sonya is a beast!" We ended up losing to Syracuse again giving them a MUCH greater run for their money in the next game, but 2nd in your pool is not so bad. We also came away with once again.... the sportsmanship trophy! I think the team is going to try really hard next time to get 1st overall, so look out to the rest of the East Coast! Here WE Come!
I didn't take too many pics this weekend. Comes from leaving your camera in the camper and not wanting to miss the game to go get it, and not having a good enough camera to take moving shots. So sorry... no album with this post.
